Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has strongly denied reports claiming he plans to step aside in the 2027 presidential race.
In a video posted on his social media on Friday, September 19, Kalonzo accused bloggers linked to the Kenya Kwanza administration of spreading false stories to mislead the public.
The former vice president, a key member of the United Opposition, assured Kenyans that he will contest the 2027 General Election.
“I will be on the ballot in 2027, God willing. These rumors are meant to distract us, but I remain committed,” he said.
Speculation about Kalonzo’s possible defection to President William Ruto’s camp has circulated for months.
Some politicians allied with Ruto have reportedly invited him to join the government, claiming that internal opposition strategies are divisive and politically disruptive.
However, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua have encouraged Kalonzo to chart his own political course.
Wetang’ula emphasized the importance of independent judgment, saying, “Your friends may not be someone else’s friends, and your enemies may not be the same as others’ enemies.”
Mutua also advised him to speak directly with political rivals and assert his principles where needed.
Kalonzo has repeatedly refused to engage with Ruto’s administration, labeling it as a “rogue regime.”
He has stated clearly that he will not participate in any government-led discussions, citing his commitment to justice and accountability.
Earlier, Kalonzo had to respond to misleading social media claims suggesting he was appointed to lead a diplomatic mission in Côte d’Ivoire.
The post, which circulated in early August, claimed he would represent the African Union during the West African country’s elections. Kalonzo dismissed the story as completely false.
Amid these controversies, some critics argue that the United Opposition has shown signs of internal friction.
Concerns have been raised that the alliance is concentrating more on who gets which position rather than the agenda for Kenyans, sparking debates over leadership priorities and unity.
Despite the rumors and pressure, Kalonzo remains focused on his presidential ambitions.
He insists that he will stay within the United Opposition, pursuing a political path centered on service to Kenyans.
His firm stance signals that he is determined to compete in 2027 without being swayed by external narratives or political maneuvering.
