In historic and emotionally charged gathering at Opoda Farm in Bondo, delegates from the four Luo Nyanza counties — Migori, Homa Bay, Kisumu, and Siaya — have officially endorsed Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga as the new ODM party leader, marking a new chapter in the region’s political journey after the passing of the late Raila Odinga.
The meeting, which drew hundreds of party officials, Members of County Assembly (MCAs), and regional delegates, was presided over by ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga, who rallied members to remain united under the leadership of Senator Oburu.
Wanga emphasized that ODM’s strength lay in its grassroots support and called for renewed energy to protect Raila’s political legacy.
“Baba’s dream lives on through unity and purpose. We must rally behind Senator Oburu Odinga to continue what our late leader started,” Wanga declared amid loud cheers from the crowd.
The endorsement followed a courtesy visit by a section of Luo Nyanza MPs to Mama Ida Odinga at her Opoda residence.
The visit marked the conclusion of the mourning period for Raila Odinga and symbolized a fresh start for the ODM family.
Mama Ida, emotional yet composed, urged the leaders to “stand together as one house” and carry forward her late husband’s vision for Kenya.
Later, at a separate event at his Bondo home, Acting ODM leader Senator Oburu Odinga hosted Nyanza delegates and called for total unity within the party.
“Our people must move forward together. ODM remains strong, and together we will reach Canaan — the promised land our brother Raila dreamed of,” Oburu affirmed.
With Oburu Odinga now at the helm, ODM appears poised for renewal as Luo Nyanza reaffirms its loyalty to the party and prepares for a new era of political realignment and national engagement.
