Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has renewed her call for accountability over the killings of women in Embakasi, Nairobi, following a United Nations report demanding answers from the Kenyan government on abductions and enforced disappearances.

In a statement shared on X, Wamuchomba expressed frustration over the government’s failure to act on her earlier parliamentary question regarding the deaths of 42 women whose mutilated bodies were found at the Kware dumpsite in July 2024.

She said the issue had been downplayed despite its gravity.

“It’s about time. Justice delayed is denied. As an elected woman leader and a women’s rights champion, I demand to know who killed and dumped over 42 mutilated bodies of women in Kware,” she stated.

Wamuchomba added that her previous efforts to seek answers in Parliament were jettisoned by gatekeepers of the executive and oppressors.

Her reaction followed a report by the Daily Nation revealing that the Kenyan government had ignored two letters from Ms. Mary Lawlor, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders.

Lawlor raised concerns about police killings, abductions, and detention of government critics during and after the 2024 protests.

According to the report, Kenya’s failure to respond to the UN’s communication could see the matter referred to the Human Rights Council, an organ of the UN General Assembly.

The UN’s involvement signals growing international concern over the alleged human rights violations.

Wamuchomba’s remarks have amplified public calls for transparency and justice for the victims, with many Kenyans online demanding official investigations into the Embakasi killings.

Her renewed demand highlights the mounting pressure on authorities to address cases of extrajudicial killings and disappearances, which continue to raise alarm among rights groups and international observers.
