Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu has dared the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to remove him from the party, saying he will not quit despite being a strong supporter of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking on Citizen TV on Thursday, October 30, 2025, Nyutu said he is still a member of UDA and will only leave the party when he personally decides to do so.
He challenged party leaders who are unhappy with him to take the matter directly to President William Ruto, the party leader.
“If UDA is not happy with me being a member, let them remove me from their list. I challenge Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei and Nyando MP Jared Okello to tell the President to kick me out,” Nyutu stated boldly.
The senator said he had already faced political punishment in the party after being removed as Chairperson of the Senate Education Committee but added that he was not shaken.
“I was removed as chair of education, but I survived. I will leave UDA when I want, not when they want,” he declared.
Nyutu further claimed that President Ruto is planning to use the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party for his re-election campaign in 2027.
According to him, Ruto’s interest in ODM shows desperation and a lack of confidence in his own party.
“President Ruto has plans to inherit ODM or use it as a political vehicle for his re-election. He wants to benefit from ODM because he has lost touch with UDA’s real foundation,” he said.
The senator argued that the President did not fully commit himself to UDA during the last election, believing he could succeed without strong party structures.
He said the President is now struggling to maintain political control after divisions emerged within the ruling party.
Nyutu’s comments come amid growing political tension within UDA as leaders continue to take sides between President Ruto and former Deputy President Gachagua.
