President William Ruto is expected to announce a major Cabinet reshuffle in the coming days to bring KANU chairman Gideon Moi into his inclusive government, following the death of opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Sources close to State House told Taifa Leo that the reorganization has been accelerated as President Ruto seeks to restore political balance within his administration after Mr. Odinga’s passing left a significant vacuum.

Mr Odinga, who died last week, had been a key player in brokering political calm during the Gen Z protests that rocked Kenya in 2024.

The President is reportedly keen to strengthen his government’s unity agenda by bringing back the Moi family into the political mainstream after years in the cold.

“Our party experts are finalizing the details of the new agreement, which will see several of Moi’s allies appointed to various government positions. However, this deal is not about political gain but about national unity,” said KANU Secretary-General George Wainaina.

The agreement, which is expected to be signed soon by President Ruto and Mr. Moi, will bring KANU back to the center of government after many years in political cold.

The move is reportedly a reward for Moi’s decision to withdraw from the Baringo senatorial by-election set for November 27.

Analysts say Moi’s entry into government strengthens President Ruto’s efforts to build an inclusive administration and revive relations with the Moi family, a relationship that for decades has alternated between rivalry and reconciliation.

Sources close to the talks have revealed that Moi could be appointed Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, a position currently held by Davis Chirchir, a close ally of President Ruto.

Another source disclosed that the late Raila Odinga was the one who initiated the early steps to reconcile President Ruto and Moi, though he did not live to see the fruits of his efforts.

The deal is also said to include appointments of Moi’s allies to positions such as Principal Secretaries, ambassadors, and directors of state corporations.

According to the reports, Moi could also be appointed Deputy Prime Cabinet Secretary, which would make him the fourth-highest-ranking official in the government after President Ruto, Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
