Detectives are investigating the murder of a 50-year-old woman whose body was discovered in a thicket in Kitengela, Kajiado County.
The victim, identified as Caroline Akinyi Ochieng, was found on November 19, 2025, after locals spotted her body and alerted authorities.
Police launched an intensive search immediately after the discovery. Their efforts led to the arrest of the prime suspect on Saturday in Kisumu, where he is believed to have fled after the crime.
The man was found in possession of Akinyi's salon car, a key piece of evidence that helped track him down.
Authorities believe the suspect travelled to Kisumu to avoid detection, but his movements were closely monitored until his arrest.
At the moment, the motive behind the killing remains unclear. Detectives are examining the relationship between the suspect and the victim, as well as any possible disagreements or events that might have led to the tragic incident.
They are also reviewing communication records and retracing the victim’s last known movements to understand what happened in her final hours.
Police have since escorted the suspect back to Kitengela, where he is expected to be arraigned in court to face murder charges.
Residents of Kitengela have expressed concern over rising insecurity in the area, calling for stronger police patrols and community vigilance.
Area leaders have urged the public to cooperate with authorities and share any information that could help resolve the case. Meanwhile, Akinyi's family is urging authorities to ensure justice is served.
