An ODM politician today delivered a fiery address in Turkana during an event attended by top officials of the Orange Democratic Movement, taking aim at a section of elected leaders accused of undermining the party from within.
The outspoken leader, whose remarks drew strong reactions from the crowd, condemned what she termed as growing indiscipline and political mutiny among some office holders who rode to power on ODM tickets but have since shifted their loyalty.
She warned the elected leaders against continued defiance, insisting that the party would not tolerate acts that weaken its structures at a time when it is reorganising ahead of the next General Election.
Speaking with evident frustration, she urged the leaders who no longer believe in ODM’s direction to exercise patience instead of causing internal friction, telling them to “wait until 2027” if they wish to officially exit the movement.
According to her, the leaders in question remain legally and politically recognised as ODM representatives, and therefore bear the responsibility to uphold party values until the expiry of their mandate.
She emphasised that ODM’s identity and unity must come before individual political interests, arguing that constant political messaging against the party amounts to betrayal of voters who entrusted them with power.
The event, marked by speeches from senior ODM figures, focused on strengthening the party’s grassroots presence in Turkana County and reaffirming its commitment to internal discipline.
Several officials echoed her sentiments, calling for a renewed culture of loyalty and respect for party organs as preparations for 2027 intensify.
Her remarks highlight growing tensions inside the opposition party, which has in recent months faced criticism from both allies and defectors.
With the 2027 political landscape already taking shape, ODM appears keen to keep its elected leaders in line and maintain a united front as it strategises for the next electoral battle.
