Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Thursday led a high-powered delegation to Opoda Farm in Bondo, Siaya County, to mourn the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

The emotional visit came amid nationwide mourning following the death of the veteran opposition leader, whose influence shaped Kenya’s democratic journey for decades.

Kalonzo, a close ally and longtime political partner of Raila under the Azimio la Umoja Coalition, arrived alongside Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa, and several other senior leaders.

They were warmly received by members of the Odinga family and local leaders who have been coordinating funeral preparations.

In his tribute, Kalonzo described Raila as a patriot and statesman who devoted his entire life to fighting for democracy, justice, and the rights of ordinary Kenyans. “Kenya has lost a father of reform and a symbol of resilience. Raila’s vision for a united and prosperous Kenya will forever inspire generations,” he said.

However, his speech was briefly interrupted when hundreds of emotional residents broke into chants of “Baba! Baba!” and liberation songs in Raila’s honor.

The atmosphere grew more charged, forcing Kalonzo to cut short his remarks and join the crowd in singing and chanting in memory of his fallen comrade. The move brought a wave of emotion as mourners united in song and tears, celebrating Raila’s life and struggle.

Security remained tight around the Odinga homestead as more dignitaries arrived to pay their respects. Government officials are expected to announce official funeral arrangements in the coming days, with thousands anticipated to attend what is set to be one of the most historic and emotional farewells in Kenya’s political history.
