Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has opened up about her past beliefs regarding Azimio leader Raila Odinga, admitting that she grew up thinking he was a bad man.

Speaking honestly, the vocal MP said that during her upbringing, many people in her community were made to believe that Raila Odinga was someone to be feared or disliked. She revealed that this perception was heavily influenced by the political environment at the time, where certain regions were conditioned to view him negatively without truly knowing him.

Wamuchomba, however, shared that her perception completely changed after meeting and interacting with Raila personally. She described him as a humble, kind, and patriotic leader who has sacrificed so much for Kenya’s democracy and unity.

She went on to express regret, saying it was unfortunate that such political propaganda made her and many others form wrong opinions about someone they had never truly understood. According to her, Kenyans need to start unlearning tribal and political biases that have for years divided the nation.

Her confession has sparked mixed reactions across social media.

Many Kenyans praised Wamuchomba for her honesty, saying it takes courage and self-reflection for a leader to admit they were once misled by political narratives.

One user commented, “This is the kind of maturity we need in politics. It’s good that she now sees Raila for who he truly is.”

Another added, “We were taught to hate Raila without any reason, but time has revealed his true character.”

Others, however, viewed her remarks with suspicion, suggesting that her sudden admiration for Raila might be politically motivated. One user wrote, “She’s only saying this because political winds are shifting.”

Despite the mixed opinions, Wamuchomba’s statement has opened a larger conversation about the dangers of tribal politics, misinformation, and how deeply political narratives can shape people’s beliefs in Kenya.
