Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga has issued a firm reminder to members and leaders within the Orange Democratic Movement, stressing that the party operates under a clear communication structure that must be respected.

Odinga stated that ODM has only one recognised spokesperson, Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, and any official communication on behalf of the party should come through his office.

She noted that recent activities by some individuals who have been convening private meetings or releasing statements under the party’s name have raised concern among loyal members.

According to Odinga, such actions risk creating mixed messages, internal tension and unnecessary suspicion at a time when the party needs a united voice.

She emphasised that ODM functions through established organs and procedures, and anyone speaking for the movement must have authorisation from the proper leadership channels.

Odinga explained that political parties thrive on order and clarity, and once many voices begin to speak for the same organisation without approval, confusion becomes inevitable.

She urged members to follow the party’s communication framework and allow the Secretary General to handle official positions, announcements and responses to national issues.

This, she said, ensures that the party’s stance remains clear and consistent, both to its supporters and to the wider public.

While acknowledging that every leader has a right to express personal opinions, she insisted that personal opinions should not be packaged as party positions.

Odinga encouraged those with ideas or concerns to present them through the party’s internal structures instead of addressing the public in a way that suggests they are speaking on behalf of ODM.

Her remarks come at a time when the political environment in the country is becoming more active, with leaders positioning themselves ahead of future political contests.

Odinga urged members to remain disciplined, focused and loyal to the guidance of the party leadership.

She expressed confidence in Sifuna’s ability to communicate ODM’s agenda and reiterated that the Secretary General’s office remains the sole channel for official statements.

Ruth Odinga concluded by calling for calm, unity and respect within the party, reminding members that a stable and organised movement stands a better chance of advancing its interests on the national stage.
