(OPINION) List of ODM Leaders Who Will Support Ruto in 2027 Even if the Party Opposes The President

A seismic shift is rocking the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) barely a month after Raila Odinga's death on October 15, 2025, as heavyweight leaders openly pledge loyalty to President William Ruto for 2027—defying party hardliners pushing for independence.

Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi dropped the bombshell in Ugunja on Sunday, November 9, vowing: "I'll stand with Ruto till the end of his second term, party stance or not."

Echoing Raila's final directive to sustain the broad-based government, Wandayi hailed Ruto as the Luo community's true friend who shielded Baba during the 2007 chaos and delivered a heroic state funeral.

The CS's defiance came hours after declaring 2027 a straight Ruto vs Gachagua showdown, insisting Orange supporters must bloc-vote for the incumbent to honour Raila's unity vision. "Don't deviate from the path he left us," Wandayi thundered at a Kisumu fundraiser, dismissing solo runs as delusional.

He's not alone. Raila's longtime spokesman Dennis Onyango bluntly told Nyatike crowds: "ODM can't win the presidency alone—our only shot is backing Ruto over bitter ex-DP Riggy G." Onyango slammed fence-sitters, urging Treasury CS John Mbadi to rally Luos behind State House for real power.

Acting leader Oburu Oginga keeps doors ajar, hinting conditional support if Ruto delivers on the 10-point Nadco agenda, while sister Ruth demands internal strengthening first. But pro-Ruto voices like Wandayi, Mbadi, and Gladys Wanga dominate cabinet corridors, praising Baba's "sincere partner" who finally ended raw deals.

As Sifuna's faction plots Kenya Moja revival and Gachagua woos Nyanza, the pro-Ruto camp's aggressive push signals one thing: Raila's legacy is now a battlefield, with Orange souls up for grabs in a brutal 2027 realignment that could bury opposition dreams forever.
