The DCP withdrew it's leader Duncan Mbui and opted to support DP's Newton Karish.
Karish is a popular musician in the Mt Kenya region and is seeking to take over a seat previously held by Mr Geoffrey Ruku, now a Cabinet Secretary.
With Kithure Kindiki's elevation to the cabinet, the President needed someone from the Embu, Tharaka Nithi or Meru counties to fill in that seat.
According to him, Ruku was the man.
Previously Gachagua said that they will only elect professionals in Mt Kenya just like it is done in other regions like Nyanza.
Where lawyers, and other educated leaders, according to him were elected to fight with Baba Raila.
CS Ruku however asks why he was asking Mt Kenya people to vote for a benga musician while he had earlier said he wanted professionals. Speaking from two sides?
