Following his impeachment as the deputy president of the republic of Kenya, Rigathi Gachagua started consolidating Mt Kenya region behind his leadership.
He formed his DCP party and building his team with MPs who are mostly UDA rebels.
As we go to the next general election, there are some Gachagua allies especially from Mt Kenya who might lose their seats. One of them is Mukurweini Member of Parliament Hon. John Kaguchia.
The legislator was elected in the hotly contested 2022 general election on President William Ruto's led UDA party ticket. He later defected from Ruto's camp to Gachagua following the impeachment of the latter.
Politrack Africa recently conducted an opinion poll to determine who is the most popular candidate in the Mukurweini parliamentary race.
In their reports, Politrack revealed that Prof. Teresa Mutahi is preferred candidate in the race with support of 49.1%. She is followed by the incumbent Hon. John Kaguchia with 37.2%.
The third place is taken by Beatrice Maingi with 9.1% support while Hon. Anthony Kiai and Levi Munyeri are having 1.6% and 0.5% support respectively.
Other candidates who are also in the race share about 0.9%, with 1.6% of the respondents were still undecided.
From the above report, it's evident that Prof. Teresa Mutahi is likely to win if all the aspirants go all the way to the ballot.
This is because the number of the undecided voters cannot fill the gap between the first and second most popular candidates according to opinion poll.
