A dramatic shift unfolded in the Senate on Monday after Speaker Amason Kingi formally announced the removal of Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale from his position as Senate Majority Whip.

The revelation came after the Speaker confirmed receiving and verifying official communication from the Senate Majority Leader indicating that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party had effected a major leadership change within its ranks.

According to the correspondence, Bungoma Senator Wafula Wakoli has been appointed as the new Senate Majority Whip, effectively taking over from Khalwale.

The change marks a significant realignment within the ruling coalition, signaling possible internal restructuring as UDA positions itself for smoother legislative operations and stronger party discipline within the Upper House.

Speaker Kingi, while communicating the decision to the House, emphasized that the Majority Party followed the required procedures in making the change.

He added that his office had no objections after confirming the authenticity of the communication and ensuring that the new appointment complied with parliamentary standing orders.

Senator Wakoli’s elevation is expected to bring fresh energy and a new leadership style to the majority side.

A first-term senator, Wakoli has quickly built a reputation as a vocal and assertive lawmaker.

His promotion to the powerful whip position places him at the heart of government business in the Senate, where he will now lead vote mobilization, coordinate legislative strategy, and enforce party discipline.

The removal of Senator Khalwale has sparked mixed reactions among political observers.

Some view the move as part of UDA’s broader plan to recalibrate its leadership structure ahead of upcoming political realignments, while others interpret it as a response to internal disagreements that may have strained the relationship between Khalwale and key party figures.

For now, Senator Wakoli steps into the position at a critical moment, as the Senate prepares to debate key bills and national policies that will significantly impact the country’s economic and governance landscape.

His performance in the coming months will determine not only his political trajectory but also the stability and effectiveness of UDA’s parliamentary agenda.
