National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has publicly defended President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid, saying the President is on course for a decisive victory.
In a statement shared on his official X account on Friday, January 30, 2026, Wetang’ula said Ruto’s performance in office and ongoing development projects give him a strong advantage heading into the next General Election.
“I expressed confidence that President Ruto will win decisively in 2027 and leave a strong legacy,” Wetang’ula said.
He pointed to major projects underway or planned under Ruto’s administration, including a Level Six hospital in Bungoma, an airstrip in Webuye, and the proposed dualling of the Mombasa–Nairobi–Malaba highway.
According to Wetang’ula, the projects show the government’s commitment to development across the country and strengthen Ruto’s case for a second term.
The Speaker also appealed to residents of the North Rift region to support the President, including those who previously backed the late ODM leader Raila Odinga.
“I called on North Rift residents, including former supporters of Raila Odinga, to rally behind the President,” he said. “We need unity under the broad-based government.”
Wetang’ula urged Kenyans to continue supporting the Kenya Kwanza administration, saying national unity remains a key priority for President Ruto.
“I urged all Kenyans to support and pray for the Kenya Kwanza administration, especially President Ruto, as he works to unite the country,” he added.
His remarks come days after President Ruto openly stated that he is aiming for a large victory margin in the 2027 election.
Speaking on Monday, January 26, 2026, at State House during a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) National Governing Council meeting, Ruto said he wants to win by between two and three million votes.
“In the coming election, we want to win by a margin of between two and three million so that we unite the country and walk together,” Ruto said.
He noted that the 2022 election was narrowly decided and said a wider margin would help stabilise the country.
“In the last election, we won by about 200,000 votes. There is justification for us to consolidate the country into one,” he added.
Ruto also praised the performance of leaders drawn from the Orange Democratic Movement under the broad-based government arrangement.
“This broad-based government has worked,” he said. “Treasury CS John Mbadi and others have done a good job.”
