Winnie Odinga has defended the legacy of the Orange Democratic Movement, insisting the party represents a long and serious struggle for democratic reforms in Kenya.

Speaking after the NEC decided to remove senator Edwin Sifuna from office, she emphasized that ODM is built on years of sacrifice and political resistance led by her father, Raila Odinga.

Winnie said the movement should not be reduced to optics, branding, or mobilizing crowds for convenience.

According to her, ODM was founded on principles of justice, constitutionalism, devolution, and the expansion of civil liberties.

She noted that the party’s history is intertwined with Kenya’s broader fight for multiparty democracy and electoral reforms.

Her remarks come at a time when internal debates and shifting political alliances have sparked questions about ODM’s direction.

She urged supporters to remain committed to the party’s founding ideals, warning against reducing its identity to transactional politics or temporary political excitement.
