Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has broken his silence following his ouster from the party, announcing that he will hold a press conference to address the issues that led to his removal.
The embattled Nairobi Senator stated that he has received an avalanche of messages offering encouragement, support, and solidarity in response to the ODM National Executive Council (NEC) decision to remove him from the party’s top administrative position.
This comes a day after Sifuna was removed from the powerful Secretary General post he had held for nearly a decade since 2016, when he replaced Ababu Namwamba under dramatic circumstances.
The decision to remove Sifuna is now awaiting ratification by the party’s National Governing Council (NGC).
If approved, the matter will be forwarded to the National Delegates Conference (NDC), expected to be held in March, where it will be formally sealed.
Oburu Odinga had earlier accused Sifuna of speaking with a double tongue, arguing that in his position he should clearly distinguish between his personal opinions and official party positions.
Sifuna has since been replaced by Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo, who will serve in an acting capacity pending the election of a new Secretary General.
