Panic swept through Nairobi’s Central Business District after a building under construction collapsed at the busy junction of Racecourse and Kirinyaga Road, leaving at least six people injured.

The shocking incident occurred near the popular OTC area along Kirinyaga Road, a bustling commercial hub known for heavy pedestrian and business traffic.

Witnesses described a terrifying scene as the structure suddenly gave way, sending debris crashing onto the street and triggering screams from nearby traders and passersby.

According to initial reports, six people sustained injuries in the collapse.

The victims are believed to have been at or near the construction site when the building caved in.

The extent of their injuries has not yet been officially confirmed.

The Kenya Red Cross has confirmed the incident and announced that its emergency response teams were immediately dispatched to the scene.

“A building has collapsed near OTC along Kirinyaga Road in Nairobi County. Response teams are en route,” the organization said in a brief statement.

Emergency crews are currently working to secure the area and assess whether anyone may still be trapped beneath the rubble.

Police officers have cordoned off sections of the road to allow rescue operations to proceed and to prevent further injuries.

The cause of the collapse remains unclear at this stage.

Authorities are expected to launch investigations to determine whether structural weaknesses, construction irregularities, or safety compliance failures played a role in the incident.

The collapse has once again raised serious concerns about construction standards and enforcement within Nairobi’s rapidly growing urban landscape.

In recent years, similar incidents have sparked debate over building approvals, inspections, and accountability.

As rescue operations continue, families and business owners in the area anxiously await updates. More details are expected as emergency teams complete their assessment of the situation.
