Shock and anger have gripped Bomet County after police arrested a clinical officer accused of sexually assaulting a pregnant woman during a routine medical visit at a public health facility.

According to police, the incident happened at Chemaner Health Center, where the woman had gone for a pregnancy check-up.

The suspect was later identified as Eric Langat, a clinical officer stationed at the facility.

Bomet East Sub County Police Commander Michael Singa confirmed the arrest and said investigations are ongoing.

Witnesses told investigators that staff and patients were alerted after hearing screams coming from one of the examination rooms.

When people rushed to the scene, they allegedly found the suspect in a compromising situation before he escaped.

A police report indicated that the victim was immediately taken to Longisa County Referral Hospital, where she received urgent medical care and counselling.

Officers later tracked down and arrested the suspect at his hideout after launching a manhunt.

Police also revealed that the suspect had allegedly been linked to two similar incidents in the past which were never reported, allegedly due to his close ties with senior medical staff.

Authorities said they are now reviewing past complaints as part of the investigation.

The matter was formally reported at Chemaner Police Station, and the suspect is expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are completed.

Health officials and leaders in Bomet have condemned the incident and urged victims of abuse to speak out.

The case has Å™ calls for stronger protection of patients and strict action against medical staff who abuse their positions of trust.
