Karanja Kibicho's Question to Kenyans Ahead Of Next Year's General Elections, Says This About the New IEBC Chairperson

Former Interior PS Karanja Kibicho has come out and posed a Constitutional question to Kenyans ahead of next year's general elections.

Taking to his official social media account, Karanja Kibicho began by arguing that to run for President, one must qualify to stand as a Member of Parliament and to stand for a Member for Parliament, one must be a registered voter.

 He also quoted a constitutional article requiring one to be of sound mind in order to qualify to be a registered voter.

Kibicho also argued that a sitting President can be removed under Article 144 on grounds of mental incapacity.

In that regard, Karanja Kibicho questioned whether IEBC should ensure Mental soundness principle is respected at nomination by requiring a certificate of mental soundness to be presented alongside other qualifications.

"Mental soundness is therefore already embedded in our constitutional structure.Shouldn’t IEBC ensure this principle is respected at nomination by requiring a certificate of mental soundness, just as it requires other supporting documents?" Reads Karanja Kibicho's question.
