Popular Kenyan actress Jackie Matubia has stirred debate online after revealing how she lost Ksh 7,000 through an Mpesa mistake and the receiver refused to reverse the money.
Jackie said the incident happened while she was paying a businesswoman after a transaction.
She later realised that she had sent the money to the wrong number after confusing the last digit.
By the time she noticed the error, the damage had already been done.
Jackie explained that she had sent the money through her bank at 10:54 and only discovered the mistake later, adding that she knew the bank would not be able to help her recover it.
The actress explained that she tried calling the woman who received the money after seeing her full names on Mpesa, believing she would be honest.
However, the woman allegedly avoided her calls and later switched off her phone.
Jackie said she initially thought the recipient looked like a good person, but when she called her, she felt the woman was playing games.
She added that after the first call, the woman went offline and could not be reached again.
Jackie later contacted the bank but was told that the money had already been used.
The loss left her frustrated, especially because the money was meant as a refund to a business owner.
She added that she wanted to teach the woman a lesson after she refused to refund the money, noting that Ksh 7,000 was a significant amount given the current economic situation.
She said she is considering reporting the matter to the police but feels conflicted because of her faith.
Jackie asked fans to advise her on the next step as she tries to recover from the loss.
The case has sparked fresh discussion on Mpesa errors and the need for honesty when money is sent to the wrong number.
