Online personality Vyacheslav Trahov, AKA Yaytseslav, has responded to the backlash over videos he made of his interactions with African women.
The Russian guy got attention after clips showed him chatting up women in Kenya and Ghana at places like malls and supermarkets.
Some videos show him inviting women back to his place. Apparently, he might have used smart glasses to record some of this.
After getting heat for the videos, Yaytseslav supposedly posted a message on his Telegram channel.
He said the videos are almost a year old and that he shared them to show other Russians that they can meet women abroad.
He also said that white men are very desirable in Africa, which many found offensive.
His comments have been met with strong reactions. Some Kenyans have called out the recordings and his broad statements about African women.
Others have argued that the women seemed to be participating willingly, so why is everyone so upset?
The situation has also brought up worries about privacy and consent. One Kenyan techie pointed out that the Russian guy may have used Ray Ban smart glasses, which cost around sixty thousand shillings, to secretly record the videos.
These glasses can record and save videos, which can then be put online.
The debate is still going on, and the incident has started bigger discussions about exploitation online, racial stereotypes, and being responsible when you have hidden recording tech.
Officials haven't said anything yet, but people really want them to take action.
