ODM MP Caleb Amisi has reacted to a recently shared list of aspirants vying for various positions under the United Democratic Alliance calling on Kenyans to allow President William Ruto some respite.

In his post, the Saboti legislator urged people to stop overwhelming the president with excessive expectations or pressures, describing him as an ordinary human being who needs time to breathe and relax.

The list Amisi referenced provides a county-by-county breakdown of UDA aspirants ahead of upcoming elections. It shows a total of 12,353 individuals expressing interest across multiple seats: 149 for governor, 279 for senator, 323 for woman representative, 1,372 for member of parliament, and 10,230 for member of county assembly positions.

Amisi went further, breaking down the numbers to warn of potential pitfalls. He pointed out that Nairobi alone has 17 constituencies, with reports suggesting around 7 aspirants per constituency on the UDA ticket in some areas, leading to intense internal competition.

He predicted that the hype around the massive turnout could backfire, stating: “Only 10% of those who were at the State House will vie on UDA in the 2027 GE. The rest have already started deregistering as they left the State House this morning. Thank me later.”

The Saboti MP's remarks frame the event as a "political trap" for Ruto, suggesting that the overwhelming number of aspirants creates unrealistic expectations and could fragment party unity rather than strengthen it.

Amisi urged restraint and strategic planning, implying that the crowd's enthusiasm might be superficial or opportunistic rather than a genuine reflection of UDA's dominance.

The State House engagement comes amid ongoing political realignments in Kenya. With the ODM in a broad-based government arrangement with Ruto's administration, critics like Amisi have repeatedly accused some ODM elements of enabling UDA's expansion into traditional opposition strongholds.

The high aspirant numbers reported as high as 12,235 in some sources have been touted by UDA supporters as a sign of confidence in Ruto's leadership and economic recovery plans, including proposed PAYE reductions for lower earners announced during the meeting.
