Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has fired back at President William Ruto after a series of personal attacks, sparking a new wave of political debate.

Speaking on March 19, 2026, Gachagua defended plus-size women and criticized what he described as unfair treatment of his political allies.

Addressing a political gathering, Gachagua stated, “All of us with big bodies won’t vote for Kasongo. As Africans, we love plus-size women. Ruto, what is your issue with plus-size women?

All you plus-size women, you are very beautiful, and I love you.” His remarks were seen as both a response to President Ruto’s earlier attacks and an attempt to connect with voters through a message of inclusivity and body positivity.

The former deputy president suggested that negative narratives and personal attacks could affect political support. He hinted that leaders who demean or disrespect groups risk losing their backing in future elections.

His remarks also come amid growing political tensions, as leaders position themselves ahead of upcoming contests and attempt to rally support among key demographics.

Gachagua’s comments have generated a mix of reactions. Supporters praised him for promoting body confidence and speaking up against perceived injustices, while critics argued that political leaders should prioritize national issues such as the economy, healthcare, and infrastructure over personal remarks.

Political analysts note that Gachagua’s response highlights how personal attacks are increasingly influencing Kenyan political discourse.

By combining humor, body positivity, and political critique, he seeks to resonate with voters who feel sidelined or targeted, particularly women and marginalized groups.

As the political climate intensifies, the exchange between Gachagua and President Ruto demonstrates how personal remarks and social commentary are becoming central tools in shaping public opinion and voter loyalty in Kenya.
