Police in Makueni have launched a intensive manhunt for a woman who allegedly strangled her 11 year old son to death in a lodging facility on Sunday.
The suspect arrived at the guest house in the company of her three children and booked a room for the night.
According to preliminary reports, the stay appeared routine until the woman reportedly turned on her eldest child.
She is accused of murdering the boy inside the room before fleeing the premises under the cover of darkness.
The grim discovery occurred when attendants at the facility realized the mother was missing and went to check on the occupants.
They found the 11 year old boy lying lifeless on the bed.
In a heartbreaking twist, his two younger siblings were found alive and unharmed in the same room where their brother met his end.
Police officers moved the body of the deceased to a local mortuary for a post-mortem examination to confirm the exact cause of death.
The two surviving children were rescued and placed under the care of the authorities as investigators processed the crime scene for forensic evidence.
The motive behind the targeted killing remains unknown, and the sudden disappearance of the mother has left the local community in deep shock.
Detectives are currently tracking the suspect’s movements and recording statements from the lodging staff to establish the timeline of events leading up to the tragedy.
