The family of blogger Maureen Gathigia Kinyua has petitioned the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to reopen investigations into her 2019 death, insisting it was not a road accident but a planned killing.
Through their lawyers, the family presented six grounds supporting their claim and called for a formal inquest.
According to her father, James Kinyua Macharia, new witness accounts and physical evidence contradict the initial findings that linked her death to a boda boda accident in Mataga.
The family alleges that Maureen was lured to the area by a woman connected to a senior political figure and later placed on a motorcycle under unclear circumstances.
They further claim the rider fled the scene immediately after the incident and returned only after being summoned by authorities. Notably, the motorcycle reportedly had no visible damage, while Maureen sustained a suspicious head injury not properly addressed in the autopsy.
The case has drawn political attention, with Rigathi Gachagua denying any involvement. The family now wants the ODPP to treat the matter as a homicide and pursue fresh forensic investigations.
