According to reports, 19 year old Kynath Terry and his 24 year old wife, Precious Johnson, had just welcomed their first child when Terry allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot his wife multiple times inside the hospital. Precious, who had delivered a healthy baby, died at the scene from her injuries.
Shortly after the shooting, Terry was found dead at around 9:30 pm on March 1, authorities said, in what appears to be a murder-suicide.
The couple’s newborn, now without both parents, survived the ordeal but will require care from extended family or appointed guardians.
Terry’s mother shared with investigators that the couple had been experiencing ongoing marital problems up to the time of the birth.
She expressed disbelief that her son could commit such a violent act, noting she had never expected him to become dangerous.
Precious reportedly did not want her husband’s relatives present at the hospital during delivery, according to family comments included in initial reports.
Local police briefly locked down the hospital while they secured the scene and investigated the incident before reopening the facility for other patients.
Officials described the shooting as domestic-related and isolated, stressing that hospital security protocols would be reviewed in the aftermath. The heartbreaking events have drawn attention to issues of domestic violence and the importance of support systems for vulnerable families.
