Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has dismissed claims that he is on the verge of quitting the United Opposition, instead affirming his commitment to the coalition and calling for patience as the alliance continues to solidify.

Speaking on Sunday, Matiang’i described the opposition outfit as a “homestead,” emphasizing that its strength lies in the diversity of its members and their varied political backgrounds.

He noted that, like any emerging political formation, the coalition is undergoing a natural process of growth and internal alignment.

“The United Opposition is like a homestead; what makes us interesting is our diversity and different backgrounds,” he said.

“We are getting to know each other and becoming more familiar with one another as we move forward. It is a journey.”

His remarks come amid growing speculation in political circles that cracks were emerging within the opposition, with some reports suggesting that key figures, including Matiang’i, were reconsidering their positions.

However, the former CS firmly rejected such claims, stating that the coalition remains intact and focused on its long-term goals.

Matiang’i urged supporters and observers to avoid rushing to negative conclusions, adding that differences within the coalition should not be mistaken for disunity. “We are fine, and I cannot prophesy doom,” he stated, in what appeared to be a direct response to critics predicting a fallout.

Political analysts have pointed out that opposition coalitions often face early challenges as leaders work to harmonize their agendas and strategies. Matiang’i’s comments signal an effort to reassure supporters and maintain confidence in the alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, his statement underscores a broader message of unity and resilience within the opposition, even as scrutiny over its stability intensifies.
