The Orange Democratic Movement has dismissed reports published on the Sunday Standard alleging that the party ferried over 6,000 delegates to Nairobi for its Special Delegates Conference (SDC), terming the report as false, baseless and misleading.
In a statement on Sunday, March 29, ODM’s Director of Campaigns and Elections, Junet Mohammed, accused the Standard media of publishing sensational and erroneous reports aimed at misinforming the public and denting the party’s credibility.
“Our attention has been drawn to a misleading and sensational headline published by The Standard Group alleging that ODM ferried 6,000 delegates to Nairobi for our National Delegates.
However, it was his bold claim about Iran that drew the most attention. Muhoozi stated that a single brigade of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) would be enough to take control of Tehran within two weeks.
The statement was widely seen as exaggerated and unrealistic, quickly attracting criticism and mockery online.
In response, Iran dismissed the remarks, treating them as entertainment rather than a serious threat. Iranian officials sarcastically referred to Muhoozi as “the latest phenomenon” and compared his comments to a performance on “Africa’s Got Talent,” highlighting how little weight they placed on his claims.
The exchange comes at a time of rising tensions in the Middle East, involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. These tensions have already affected global trade, especially following disruptions around key routes like the Strait of Hormuz.
Although Muhoozi’s comments have not been officially endorsed by the Ugandan government, they have drawn international attention and sparked debate about the role of African leaders in global conflicts.
