Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has thanked residents of Narok for turning up in large numbers for the Linda Mwananchi rally, despite disruptions caused by rain and teargas.
In a statement shared on his social media platforms shortly after the event, Sifuna acknowledged the challenges faced during the gathering but praised the resilience of the crowd.
“Thank you Narok! Mvua na teargas imeleta mchanganyiko kidogo lakini tunawapenda. Hapa itabidi turudi tena,” he posted.
The rally, held earlier today, was part of the ongoing Linda Mwananchi movement opposing the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party’s decision to support President William Ruto.
The event drew a significant crowd, as seen in photos shared by Sifuna, showing thousands of residents gathered to listen to the leaders.
Among those present were Siaya Governor James Orengo and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, both of whom have been vocal critics of the party’s recent political direction.
The leaders addressed supporters, reiterating their stand against the ODM leadership’s move and calling for what they described as the protection of the people’s interests.
However, the rally was briefly disrupted after police reportedly lobbed teargas to disperse sections of the crowd, even as rain poured, creating a chaotic scene. Despite this, many attendees remained at the venue, chanting slogans and showing support for the leaders.
Sifuna’s message suggests that the Linda Mwananchi team is not backing down, with plans already underway to return to Narok for another rally. The movement continues to gain traction across the country as internal divisions within ODM become more visible.
