According to Manyora, Gachagua is combining public political messaging with behind-the-scenes negotiations to gradually consolidate support and pressure influential regional leaders into aligning with his political movement.
One of the figures highlighted by the analyst is Kanini Kega, who recently associated himself with Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
Manyora described Kega as one of Gachagua’s trusted political operatives tasked with rebuilding grassroots influence and expanding the former deputy president’s regional networks.
Reports indicate that Kega was recently part of a team sent to London ahead of Gachagua’s visit, a move analysts interpret as a sign of growing organizational coordination within the emerging political outfit.
Manyora argued that Kega’s role goes beyond public support, saying the former Kieni MP is strategically positioned to help Gachagua regain influence in areas where rival political camps are also aggressively mobilizing support.
The analyst also pointed to Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi as another key figure in Gachagua’s broader political calculations.
According to Manyora, Gachagua’s decision to unveil businessman John Mwaura as a potential DCP gubernatorial candidate in Kiambu may not necessarily be aimed at directly removing Wamatangi from political relevance.

Instead, he believes the move is intended to create political pressure while leaving room for negotiations and possible future cooperation.
Manyora suggested that by introducing alternative candidates, Gachagua is effectively “boxing in” influential regional leaders and forcing them to reconsider their political alignments ahead of 2027.
He further claimed that the strategy may involve power-sharing arrangements, political negotiations, and promises of influence within county leadership structures to secure loyalty from local leaders and grassroots organizers.
Observers say similar tactics appear to be emerging in other Mt Kenya counties, including Murang’a, where political competition and succession discussions are increasingly shaping regional alliances.
Political commentator Enock Sikolia also noted that the larger Mt Kenya region remains one of the most critical voting blocs in Kenya’s presidential politics.

He argued that President William Ruto will still require substantial support from Central Kenya to strengthen his reelection chances in 2027.
The ongoing political maneuvers highlight the intensifying battle for influence within the Mt Kenya region, where former allies are increasingly competing for control of one of Kenya’s most politically significant voting blocs.
