Suba North Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo has ignited fresh political debate after calling on members of the Luo community to end attacks against Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.

In a statement that quickly gained national attention, Millie urged both supporters and critics to exercise restraint, emphasizing the need for respectful political engagement despite differing opinions.

She cautioned against turning political disagreements into personal battles, noting that democracy allows leaders to choose their political paths freely.

Millie came to the defense of Omollo, who has recently faced criticism from sections of the political class and online users over his perceived political alignment.

She argued that public officials should not be vilified solely based on their affiliations or positions within the evolving political landscape.

At the same time, she appealed to her allies to stop targeting Babu Owino following his association with the “wantam” political faction.

The move has stirred concern among some supporters of the Orange Democratic Movement, with critics questioning his loyalty to the party’s traditional stance.

According to Millie, political competition should not breed hostility. She stressed that every leader has personal reasons for making political choices and should be accorded the space to do so without fear of backlash or character attacks.

Her remarks highlighted the importance of tolerance, especially as the country approaches a period of heightened political activity.

Referencing the ongoing realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election, Millie suggested that shifting alliances are inevitable in a dynamic democracy.

She noted that what may appear controversial today could reflect broader strategic decisions that will shape the future political order.

In a statement that resonated widely, she remarked that “God knows why Babu joined the wantam side while others remain tutam,” signaling that political journeys are deeply personal and not always easily understood by the public.

Her comments have drawn mixed reactions across the country. While some Kenyans praised her for promoting political tolerance and unity, others interpreted her message as evidence of growing divisions within opposition ranks.

Political observers note that her remarks reflect the delicate balancing act many leaders face as Kenya’s political environment continues to evolve.

With alliances shifting and loyalties being tested, calls for civility are becoming increasingly urgent.
