Kisii Governor Simba Arati has caused a political storm after boldly telling President William Ruto to abandon the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and return to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), promising him a direct presidential ticket for the 2027 elections if he truly cares about Raila Odinga.

Speaking during the Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kisii County, Arati did not hold back as he addressed the crowd, saying that President Ruto should prove his respect and love for Raila by going back to the party where his political journey gained strength. The governor said ODM is ready to welcome back all its former members who left but still recognize Raila’s contribution to Kenya’s democracy.

“If you truly care about Baba Raila Odinga, then dump UDA and come back home to ODM. We will even give you the 2027 presidential ticket because you were part of the founding team that built this movement,” Arati said, drawing laughter and applause from the crowd.

Arati, who also serves as ODM’s deputy party leader, added that ODM remains the most organized and people-centered political party in the country. He said the Orange party has continued to grow stronger even after Raila’s retirement from active politics, and that its leadership is committed to keeping Baba’s legacy alive.

“ODM is still the people’s choice. We stand for justice, peace, and equality. Those who left us know there is no better home than ODM,” Arati added.

His remarks have sparked mixed reactions across the political divide. Supporters from ODM interpreted the statement as a show of confidence and political humor, while some Kenya Kwanza leaders dismissed it as mere political excitement.

Political observers believe Arati’s statement was both symbolic and strategic, meant to show that ODM is still a force to reckon with as the 2027 elections draw near.

The comments also highlight the growing political heat as parties begin positioning themselves for the next general election, where alliances and loyalties are expected to shift once again.
