In a public notice released on Friday, October 31, 2025, NPS said the recruitment will take place in every county, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Taita Taveta, Tana River, and many others.
The exercise will run on Monday, November 17, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and all applicants must arrive at their recruitment centers by 8 a.m.
The police service emphasized that the recruitment is free and fair, warning the public against offering or giving bribes to secure a position.
“Anyone found engaging in bribery will face legal action,” read part of the statement.
Who Can Apply?
According to the notice, anyone interested must:
Be a Kenyan citizen with a valid national ID card.
Be between 18 and 28 years old.
Have at least a KCSE mean grade of D+, including a minimum of D+ in English or Kiswahili.
Be physically and medically fit (minimum height of 5’8” for men and 5’3” for women).
Have no criminal record or pending charges.
Female candidates must not be pregnant during the recruitment or training period.
The NPS also encouraged National Youth Service (NYS) graduates who meet the minimum requirements to apply.
Court Ruling on Recruitment Powers
This new recruitment announcement comes shortly after a court ruling clarified who has the authority to hire police officers.
Justice Hellen Wasilwa ruled that only the National Police Service (NPS)—and not the National Police Service Commission (NPSC)—has the constitutional power to recruit, train, and assign duties to police personnel.
The judge declared a previous NPSC notice illegal, saying it violated the Constitution. She also issued a permanent injunction stopping the NPSC from carrying out any recruitment or dismissing officers in the future.
The NPS said it remains committed to a transparent process and urged all eligible Kenyans to attend the exercise at their nearest centers.
“We are building a disciplined and professional police service that represents all regions of Kenya,” the notice added.
