Kesses Member of Parliament Julius Rutto has asked the government to help bring home a sick Kenyan woman stranded in Saudi Arabia.

The woman, identified as Frenda Chelangat, is said to be seriously ill and unable to work or pay for her return ticket to Kenya.

In a letter to Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs Roseline Njogu, MP Rutto said Chelangat had gone to Saudi Arabia on a two-year contract as a domestic worker.

However, after falling sick, she lost her job and has been living under very difficult conditions.

According to the MP, Chelangat’s situation has worsened because the agency that took her to Saudi Arabia allegedly refused to give back her travel documents. This has made it impossible for her to come home for treatment.

“I am writing with a desperate plea for help. Frenda Chelangat is sick and in urgent need of medical care in Kenya.

She has no money and her travel papers are being held by the agency,” Rutto stated in his letter.

The MP also noted that Chelangat’s family has used all their savings and now depends fully on government support.

He asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to assist in paying for her flight, temporary housing, and medical expenses once she arrives in Kenya.

Rutto said he would meet Foreign Affairs PS Korir Sing’oei to follow up on the case, adding that no Kenyan should be left to suffer abroad.

“Every Kenyan working overseas deserves respect and protection. My office will continue to push for Frenda’s safe return,” he said.

Photos shared by the MP showed Chelangat in distress, with her legs and hands tied, sparking more concern over her safety.

Chelangat’s story adds to the growing number of Kenyan workers reporting abuse in Saudi Arabia.

A report by Amnesty International earlier this year showed that many domestic workers face physical assault, unpaid salaries, and even sexual abuse.

With nearly 200,000 Kenyans working in Saudi Arabia, leaders and human rights groups are urging the government to create stronger protection measures for migrant workers.

As Chelangat’s family waits for her return, many Kenyans are hoping her case will lead to more action to end the suffering of citizens working abroad.
