Renowned Kenyan musician and philanthropist Esther Akoth, popularly known as Akothee, has raised serious concern over a troubling incident involving one of the children she currently supports.
Through her official social media updates, Akothee revealed that she received a disturbing video from her gardener, prompting immediate alarm.
According to her statement, Akothee had recently relocated several children under her foundation’s care to her Mombasa residence for a change of environment.
However, after only four days, one of the girls began exhibiting worrying behavior.
The child allegedly leaves the house around 2:00 p.m. and returns late into the night, refusing to explain her movements to her siblings or the residence staff.
When confronted, the girl allegedly provided conflicting accounts of her whereabouts.
Matters escalated after Akothee decided to involve the girl’s other guardian through a phone call.
The child reportedly broke down emotionally, shut off communication with everyone around her, and threatened to harm herself.
Akothee expressed distress over the situation, noting that she is currently in Nairobi preparing for an event and is emotionally drained.
“My mental health at this moment has no capacity to handle another mental breakdown,” she stated.
This incident has sparked broader discussions surrounding the challenges of caring for vulnerable children, especially those who may be silently dealing with trauma or emotional instability.
Akothee, known for her active charity work, urged society to approach such cases with empathy, patience, and professional support, adding that the matter needs careful intervention rather than judgment.
