Prominent lawyer and politician Nelson Havi has sharply criticized the recent withdrawal of the security detail assigned to Governor Natembeya, calling it “an act of cowardice and stupidity of the highest order.”

Havi argued that the move not only compromises the safety of public officials but also sets a dangerous precedent in the management of security for those serving in public office.

“This is not just reckless; it is a glaring demonstration of poor judgment by those responsible for national security. The withdrawal endangers lives and undermines the integrity of our security institutions,” Havi stated.

According to Havi, the action has left Natembeya vulnerable at a time when threats to public figures remain high.

He emphasized that the security apparatus should serve to protect, not expose, those entrusted with public service.

“We are living in times when the risk to political figures is real. Removing security without a valid explanation is both cowardly and foolish,” he added.

Havi also questioned the motives behind the decision, suggesting that it may reflect political bias or an attempt to intimidate certain individuals.

He called for a full explanation from the authorities, insisting that public confidence in national security depends on transparency and consistency in protecting officials.

The withdrawal has sparked a heated debate online, with many expressing concern about the safety of political figures and the growing risks in Kenya’s political landscape.

As pressure mounts, observers are calling for immediate reinstatement of the security detail and a review of policies governing protection for public officials.
