Shortly after the KANU party leader Gideon Moi and president William Ruto buried their political hatchet and struck a fresh deal, reports from insiders suggested that the former was to be appointed to cabinet.

The reports alleged that not only Moi was to be elevated to cabinet. A number of his key confidants and ardent loyals were to be reportedly awarded with lucrative government positions.

However months down the line, there has been no action from president William Ruto despite the truce.

An insider privy to the Moi, Ruto deal has now emerged with fresh allegations as to why president William Ruto has been slow and reluctant to act on the alleged cabinet appointment promise.

Speaking to the 'People Daily' on condition on anonymity, the insider alleged that Ruto has been reluctant to go ahead with cabinet appointment plan due to the fear of being betrayed by team Moi.

Allegedly, top UDA machineries feared that KANU bigwigs would violate the agreement and choose to support a non UDA candidate in the Baringo Senatorial race even after being awarded government positions.

To be more specific, UDA leaders have been sensing KANU's hand in the growing popularity of Kipruto David, a fierce competitor to the ruling party's candidate.

"UDA leaders were worried that KANU is rooting for David Kipruto while pretending to be supporting UDA's Chemitei.

This is the reason why UDA has been reluctant to fulfill the agreement until after the by-elections," the source said.
