Tension erupted at Mung’ala Polling Station in Mumbuni North Ward, Machakos County, on Thursday, November 27, 2025, after residents carried out a dramatic citizen arrest of a man believed to be senior Wiper Patriotic Front Party official, Paul Museku.
According to a statement shared on social media by Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary and former Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, the incident happened during the by-election when voters claimed to have caught Museku trying to influence the outcome by giving cash to selected individuals.
Mutua wrote on X that, “CITIZEN ARREST: Senior Wiper Party leader Mr. Paul Museku arrested by Wananchi after he was found near Mung’ala polling station bribing voters.
Wananchi have had enough of election malpractices and want free and fair elections.”
Despite the tense moment, Mutua assured Kenyans that voting in Mumbuni North was continuing smoothly.
He added that security officers were present and working to maintain order, ensuring that the election process remained uninterrupted.
Observers at the polling station said the situation was quickly brought under control after Museku was detained by residents.
Some voters praised the intervention, noting that citizen action reflected the public’s frustration with attempts to manipulate the election.
Mutua emphasized that incidents of voter bribery should not undermine the democratic process.
He encouraged voters to exercise their constitutional right freely and fairly.
Security personnel continued to monitor all polling centers in the area to prevent further disturbances and ensure a peaceful voting environment.
