Makueni County has been thrown into deep sadness following the sudden death of Trade, Tourism, Industry, Marketing and Cooperatives Executive, Sonia Nzilani.
Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr confirmed on Saturday that Ms. Nzilani was found dead inside her home in Makindu, sending shockwaves across the county administration and the wider community.
According to the Governor, the news reached his office early in the morning, and county officials quickly moved to verify the information.
He described the situation as heartbreaking and urged residents to remain calm as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.
As of the time the Governor made the announcement, her body had not yet been removed from the scene, and officers were coordinating the next steps.
Ms. Nzilani was serving her first term in the county executive after being appointed by Governor Mutula.
Many knew her as a hardworking, warm, and committed leader who was passionate about boosting trade and empowering small businesses in Makueni.
Her colleagues often praised her for her hands-on approach and her drive to uplift local traders and cooperatives.
In recent months, Ms. Nzilani had been actively involved in promoting market development across the county, encouraging investment, and supporting local entrepreneurs.
