Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine has once again criticized President Yoweri Museveni, accusing him of ruling outside the law and disregarding democratic principles.

Wine, who leads the National Unity Platform (NUP), made the remarks on his Facebook page as the country prepares for the January 15, 2026 elections.

Wine said that President Museveni can no longer recognise the person he once was, but he continues to act like former dictator General Idi Amin, who ruled by decree and ignored the rule of law.

According to Wine, Museveni has shown little respect for legal procedures in governance.

The NUP leader cited a recent decision by Museveni to have his wife, Janet Museveni, along with some cabinet ministers, sign contracts for government construction projects for the army.

Wine argues this move was intended to bypass long procurement processes and violates established laws.

“In a state governed by law, projects must be reviewed and approved according to legal procedures, not by presidential orders,” Wine stated.

He emphasized that this is not the first time Museveni has ignored procurement laws.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Museveni reportedly dismissed public procurement rules as “neo-colonial” while allocating funds for government projects.

Wine, a former musician and ex-Kyadondo East legislator, also reminded Ugandans that Museveni has been in power since 1986.

He pointed out that the President, now 76, has consistently faced accusations of bypassing laws to maintain control.

The opposition leader also referenced the January 14, 2021 elections, in which Museveni was declared the winner with 59 percent of the vote against Wine’s 35 percent.

Wine rejected the results, alleging widespread fraud, a claim that the Ugandan government has consistently denied.

Bobi Wine’s remarks come as tensions rise ahead of the 2026 elections. He continues to call for fair governance, adherence to the law, and respect for democratic processes.
