Wahome Thuku Reacts Quickly After Powerful Mt Kenya MP Told Him To Monetise His Influence

Wahome Thuku has ignited fresh debate in Kenya’s political arena after disclosing details of an unexpected early-morning phone call from a prominent Mt Kenya female MP known for her fierce defence of President William Ruto.

According to Thuku, the legislator reached out with what he interpreted as a thinly veiled warning, advising him to stop offering “free labour” to politics and instead monetise his influence—just as many political insiders allegedly do.

In his Facebook narration, Thuku explained that the MP spoke with striking frankness, insisting that politics in Kenya is not driven by ideals or patriotism, but by financial interests.

She reportedly told him that while some appear loud and passionate in public, the real gains are made quietly in the background, where loyalty and visibility are rewarded handsomely.

Her remarks, Thuku said, painted a picture of a political class that views public service as a business venture rather than a calling.

The revelation has stirred intense conversation online, with many of Thuku’s followers expressing curiosity about why the MP chose to call him specifically.

Some interpreted her remarks as an admission of how deeply monetised political engagement has become, particularly among leaders aligned with State House.

Others saw it as an attempt to sway an outspoken critic into joining a well-oiled political machinery where influence translates directly into cash.

Thuku further reflected on the irony of sincere political actors who leave office with impeccable records but little to show materially, while others accumulate wealth across continents.

His comparison to long-suffering Luo politicians struck a chord with many who feel that Kenya’s political rewards system favours loyalty over integrity.

The discussion sparked by Thuku’s post has left many Kenyans pondering an uncomfortable reality: authenticity in politics rarely pays, but calculated strategy does.

How Thuku responds—whether by maintaining his principled stance or embracing the commercial side of political influence—remains to be seen and will be closely watched by his growing audience.
