Joseph Murumbi: Kenya’s Second Vice President

Joseph murumbi was born in the year 1911 in Wasin nkishu present day Usian gishu county.

He is a son of an Indian father and a maasai mother,it is said his mother is from the lineage of the oloibon the maasai famous leader.

At the age of six years his father send him to India to start his education journey,where he stayed oversees until 1931 when he came back to the country to reunite with his parent.

His father later told him to denounce the Asian nationality and proclaim his motherland national because his people needed him more.

Where they secured a piece of land and start farming with his family,They lived well until 1935 when his father became ill his health detoriated and later died.

Murumbi being not good in farming he sold everything and migrated to Nairobi and start life there,he got his first job as a cleark in the kings African rival hospital.

In 1942 is where his political Ambition accelerated when he met his ally Pio Gama pinto,When the kapenguria six were being arrested he became acting secretary general of KAU.

He served until 1952 when State of emergency was declared,KAU was banned and was forced to go to exile for his dear life after the colonial government wanted him dead or alive. 

He was forced to go to UK for his safety where he find her love of his life Sheila murumbi a young librarian at the time,He later got a job in Moroccan embassy as translator,It said while in the UK he organized and planned for the Lancaster house conference.

1963 Kenya got independence he vied for Langata south mp and won and later,Mzee Jomo Kenyatta appointed him as a first minister for foreign affairs,where he served until 1966 when Jaramogi oginga odinga resigned and being lucky he was appointed as a second kenya vice president.

In barely 6 months later Murumbi did untinkable he resigned as a vice president due to the assassination of his close ally Pio Gama pinto and concentrate with his businesses until his death.
