Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has broken his silence following disturbing reports of a shocking incident in which Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai allegedly pulled out a gun and threatened to shoot him at a Nairobi restaurant.

In a detailed statement, Babu confirmed that the incident did indeed occur and described it as a terrifying encounter that nearly cost him his life.

He revealed that the confrontation stemmed from accusations by Alai, who allegedly claimed that Babu was behind social media attacks targeting his wife.

According to the MP, the incident took place on Saturday at around 4:00 pm at a popular restaurant along Lenana Road.

Babu said he had driven himself to the venue after receiving an invitation from a senior clergyman. After holding discussions for approximately 20 minutes, he stood up to leave.

As he was exiting, Babu noticed a group of people seated at a nearby table whom he recognized, including Robert Alai.

He approached them to exchange greetings, unaware that the brief interaction would quickly escalate into a dangerous confrontation.

Babu stated that Alai suddenly accused him of orchestrating online attacks against his wife. The MP said he calmly denied the allegations and attempted to explain that he had no involvement in any such social media activity.

However, he claims that Alai became increasingly aggressive, pushing him before allegedly drawing a pistol. Babu further alleged that Alai struck him on the chest and jaw with the firearm, heightening fears for his safety.

Despite the escalating tension, Babu said he stood his ground and managed to calm Alai, who appeared to cool down briefly.

They reportedly sat down, with another individual positioning himself between them in an attempt to defuse the situation.

The calm, however, was short-lived. Babu alleged that Alai once again turned hostile, picked up a glass of water from the table, and poured it onto his face.

At that point, the MP said he decided to leave immediately to avoid any further physical confrontation that could have ended in tragedy.

Following the incident, Babu reported the matter at Kilimani Police Station, where investigations are expected to begin.

He emphasized that the decision to leave the scene was driven by a desire to preserve life and prevent further escalation.

In his statement, Babu called on leaders to exercise restraint and set a positive example for society, warning that reckless behavior among public figures could have deadly consequences.

“As leaders, we are expected to set an example for society. Some of us have come a long way and know better. However, our calm should never be mistaken for fear. We will always stand our ground in defence of our lives, our dignity, and the rule of law,” Babu said.
