Mutahi Ngunyi Oversees Ruto Handing Over Power To Uhuru's Brother Muhoho Kenyatta, Claims Matiang'i Will Be Defeated

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has suggested that former President Uhuru Kenyatta is quietly grooming his younger brother, Muhoho Kenyatta, to run for the presidency in 2032.

According to Ngunyi, recent changes in the Jubilee Party leadership are part of a long-term strategy aimed at positioning Muhoho as a presidential candidate.

Speaking to media on Friday, January 24, 2026, Ngunyi said the adjustments within Jubilee’s ranks were deliberate moves to shape the party’s future leadership.

He pointed out that Fred Matiang’i, Jubilee’s presidential candidate for 2027, is being positioned as a “decoy” while Muhoho is prepared to take over in 2032.

Jubilee Party Changes

Among the recent party changes, Jeremiah Kioni, who served as secretary general from 2022, was moved to the role of deputy leader, while his former position was given to Richard Moitalel Ole Kenta.

Ngunyi described Kioni’s demotion as symbolic, claiming his usefulness in Jubilee had ended. Meanwhile, he said Kenta’s promotion was strategic, meant to support the broader plan for Muhoho’s eventual rise.

“Jeremiah Kioni was demoted and effectively sidelined. Fred Matiang’i will also be used and engineered to fail in 2027. The ultimate goal is to have Muhoho Kenyatta presented to the public as a presidential candidate in 2032,” Ngunyi explained.

Muhoho’s Political Background

Despite coming from Kenya’s most prominent political family, Muhoho has generally stayed away from politics.

He rarely appears in public political debates and has not formally held any governmental office.

In 2024, however, rumors emerged that he might join the Cabinet, following a high-profile meeting between Uhuru and President William Ruto in Gatundu.

Media reports suggested that the discussion included strategic moves to bolster Uhuru’s influence in Mt Kenya and possible considerations for Muhoho to enter government.

Nevertheless, Muhoho did not join the Cabinet, maintaining his distance from active political participation.

Strategic Implications for 2027

Ngunyi believes that these maneuvers are part of a calculated plan to ensure Muhoho’s political viability.

By positioning Matiang’i as the 2027 candidate, Jubilee appears to be testing public reception and political strength, knowing that he may not succeed. This, Ngunyi claims, sets the stage for a smoother path for Muhoho’s eventual run in 2032.

The analyst also noted that the plan reflects broader concerns over the growing influence of Rigathi Gachagua, whose political sway in Mt Kenya has expanded significantly.

According to insiders, Jubilee’s leadership changes and potential future moves are designed to counter this trend while keeping the Kenyatta family central to national politics.

Expert Analysis

Observers say Ngunyi’s claims, if accurate, highlight the careful long-term planning that Kenya’s political elites often undertake behind the scenes.
