Over the week, Senator Edwin Sifuna, along with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and other opposition leaders, went to Murang’a County for the funeral of Alice Wangari Gakuya, mother to Embakasi North MP James Gakuya.

The event brought together leaders from different political sides, making the funeral about remembering someone, feeling united, and showing respect.

The leaders honored Alice Wangari Gakuya, recalling her as a strong, dedicated mother who did much to form her family and community.

Speakers spoke of her being disciplined and humble. Her impact went beyond her family, and they told the family to find strength knowing she touched many lives.

Senator Sifuna mentioned that when loss happens, leaders and people should remember that being human is more important than politics.

He asked for peace, caring, and togetherness, saying funerals let people forget political fights and support those who are sad. He asked leaders to be good examples by being respectful and kind.

Rigathi Gachagua also spoke, pointing out how important it is for the country to be united and understanding.

He said times like these need to make leaders think about the kind of country they're creating and the values they show by what they do and say.

Even though the day was about mourning, there were hints of political talk.

Opposition leaders used the chance to say that talking and working together is important when dealing with the country’s problems.

They asked for leadership that includes everyone and warned that disunity makes the country weaker.

For MP James Gakuya and his family, having important political people there was comforting during a hard time.

The funeral ended up being a reminder that when people are grieving, unity and support can be stronger than political differences.
