Tension rose in the Senate after a heated exchange between several lawmakers over the absence of the Majority leadership during a key sitting.

The clash involved Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, and Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina.

The disagreement started when some senators questioned why key leaders from the Majority side were not present in the House during an important debate. Members of the Minority side argued that the absence showed a lack of seriousness in handling national matters.

Khalwale said the Senate must be treated with respect at all times. He insisted that leadership carries responsibility and that those assigned roles must be present to guide discussions.

Sifuna supported the remarks and said it was wrong for the House to proceed without clear direction from the Majority leadership.

However, Cherargei defended his side and dismissed the criticism. He said the Senate can still function even when some leaders are not in the chamber. He accused his colleagues of turning a simple issue into political drama.

Ole Kina also weighed in and urged members to focus on the business of the day instead of engaging in personal attacks. He said constant arguments slow down the work of the House and distract from issues affecting citizens.
