The grieving husband of Salome John Antpass, the 26-year-old woman tragically killed by a police vehicle on Monday, February 23, has shared the heartbreaking details of their final phone call.
Salome, a mother of two, was on her way home in the evening when she was struck by a prison department vehicle, dying instantly.
Speaking to the media, her husband, Kigomba, described the agony of realizing he would never hear her voice again. “I was heading to Arusha. I called my wife and asked her not to leave because I was coming to pick her up so we could go home together.
She wanted to go home earlier to prepare for work. We agreed she could go ahead, and I allowed her to follow her plans,” he recalled, tears welling in his eyes.
Kigomba said he attempted to reach her multiple times around 5pm and 6pm, but she did not answer. “I tried calling several times. I didn’t know that would be the last time I spoke to her,” he added.
Salome’s sudden death has sent shockwaves through her family and friends, with social media users expressing sympathy and sharing messages of comfort.
The tragedy highlights ongoing concerns over road safety and the need for careful conduct by public service vehicles.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident, and the police department has pledged full cooperation in ensuring justice is served.
Meanwhile, Kigomba and his children are left grappling with the loss of a wife and mother whose life was cut short far too soon.
This heartbreaking incident comes at a time when Kenya has seen an increase in road accidents involving public vehicles, prompting calls for stricter adherence to traffic regulations. Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and prioritize safety, especially on busy urban roads.
Salome John Antpass will be remembered as a devoted mother and wife, whose life ended tragically in what her family describes as a moment of cruel misfortune.
