Edwin Sifuna has been offered KSh 3 million by Mumias East MP Peter Salasya to campaign for the Secretary General seat in the Orange Democratic Movement. The offer was made through a bold Facebook post that has stirred fresh debate within the party. Salasya urged Sifuna to focus on the SG race and avoid vying for the presidency.
In his message written in a mix of English and Swahili, Salasya said he was ready to fund Sifuna’s nationwide campaigns. However he pleaded with him not to compete for the top seat. He claimed he is the only youthful leader who has toured the entire country and is preparing for another round of national visits.
The remarks come days after Sifuna was removed as ODM Secretary General. Salasya celebrated the move and termed it a win for Kenyans. He argued that Sifuna is now free to fight for citizens without party limits and even offered to support him politically in Nairobi.
Despite the offer, Salasya has in the past attacked Sifuna publicly. He accused him of dishonesty and claimed he was being used by powerful figures to mislead young voters. At one point he called him names and told him to join the broad based government side.
The dispute comes amid the ongoing Linda Mwananchi tour led by Sifuna and his allies. The team includes Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Siaya Governor James Orengo and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi. They recently held a rally in Kitengela after attending a church service.
The event drew large crowds who chanted Sifuna’s name. Chaos broke out when police moved in to disperse the gathering using teargas and live bullets. A 28 year old man Vincent Ayomo was shot dead during the incident while reportedly running errands.
Sifuna condemned the police action and said no level of intimidation will silence them. The group now plans a major rally in Kakamega County on February 21. Orengo has described it as the mother of all rallies as the faction seeks to strengthen its grip in Western Kenya.
ODM remains divided between leaders who want closer ties with the government and those pushing for independence. Salasya’s latest move shows how intense the battle for influence has become as the race toward 2027 slowly begins.
