President William Ruto has dealt a sharp political blow to the opposition, declaring that Azimio la Umoja cannot survive without ODM.

Speaking to a lively crowd in Nairobi, he said the coalition’s future is “kuzimia” fading fast if it continues without the influential party. The statement has reignited debate on Kenya’s opposition strategy ahead of the 2027 polls.

Ruto mocked recent leadership changes in Azimio, including Junet Mohamed’s replacement as Secretary-General, arguing that reshuffles cannot compensate for the absence of ODM.

“They want to revive Azimio, but without ODM, it is dead,” he said, drawing cheers from supporters.

The President’s comments highlight growing cracks in the opposition, where ODM has resisted Azimio’s internal shake-ups, claiming procedural flaws and lack of consultation. Analysts warn these divisions could reduce voter confidence and shift momentum to Ruto’s camp.

For Kenyans, this political drama is more than a rivalry; it affects policy priorities, development projects and the stability of future government programs.

Citizens are watching closely, weighing which alliances will genuinely offer solutions to pressing social and economic challenges.

While Azimio leaders insist they can rebuild and unite, Ruto’s warning underscores the risk of fragmented coalitions.

The coming months may determine whether Kenya’s opposition can overcome internal conflicts or if the ruling party will continue consolidating its influence ahead of 2027.
